At Ainsdale Vets we believe preventative healthcare should be tailored to each individual dog and owner. Our aim is always to provide sensible, evidence-based care while also offering flexibility where appropriate.
For most dogs, we currently recommend:
- DHP vaccination (Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus) every three years
- Annual L4 leptospirosis vaccination
- Annual kennel cough vaccination for dogs that regularly mix with others through kennels, daycare, grooming or training classes
We’re also pleased to now offer the L2 leptospirosis vaccine as an alternative option. While the L4 vaccine protects against four strains of leptospirosis, the L2 vaccine covers the two strains most traditionally associated with disease in the UK.
In addition, we are now offering in-house titre testing for DHP diseases using the trusted VacciCheck system. This simple blood test checks whether your dog still has protective antibody levels against distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus, which may help determine whether a booster vaccination is needed.
Because testing is carried out within the practice, results are available quickly and at a lower cost than external laboratory testing.
It’s important to note that titre testing is not currently considered clinically useful for leptospirosis or kennel cough, so vaccination would still be recommended for protection against these diseases.
If you would like to discuss the best vaccination plan for your dog, our friendly team will be happy to help.
